Floating Support Service

This service helps you to stay in your own home safely and helps you to:

  • Make your property more secure
  • Get expert legal advice from specialist solicitors
  • Get injunctions and restraining orders to protect you and your children from further harm
  • Obtain occupation orders (a court order which forces the perpetrator of the violence to leave your home)
  • Get through this difficult time by offering lots of practical and emotional support

Our Floating Support  Worker's role includes the provision of  one-to-one emotional and practical support to women who want to stay in their own homes, rather than be homeless as a result of domestic violence. Women are normally visited at home or somewhere else that is safe and convenient.  Our worker provides intensive support and information about safety measures, legal options as well as referring women and children to specialist services such as children's centres. 

This service is available to any woman living in the Leeds area who wishes to stay in her won home safely as an alternative to suing a refuge / safe house services.

A woman can refer herself to this service by calling 01113 246 0401. any  agency can also refer as long as they have the woman's permission and no pressure is being applied for her to remain in her own home. the woman will be contacted by phone (where possible) so that the worker can do al initial assessment and details of the service will be given. If we are running at full capacity of 12 women at any time when we receive the referral, the woman will be given an information pack, tips on staying safe will be put on a waiting list. A basic safety plan will be agreed with her until the service commence.

Floating support service could be:

  • A listening ear
  • Discussing the options available
  • Support with issues related to children or parenting
  • Confidence building
  • Helping women access good legal advice and other support available to them
  • Support with court orders
  • Planning safety strategies
  • Supporting women to move to a safe place, which could be another tenancy or refuge
  • Anything else related to domestic violence
